Our client would like the Ai Agent to not to respond further once he responds to the message on his own.

This is currently possible! User can disable the AI from responding by using the . . . menu in the top right.

Ethan Bill your client can turn off AI Receptionist responses on a conversation by conversation basis by clicking the kebab in the top right of the Conversation window. Additionally, if your client sends an SMS message through Conversations that will also automatically pause responses by the AI Receptionist for an hour.
